Network equipment enables communication between computers and network devices, and the performance of each category supports the efficiency and reliability of IT infrastructure.
Types of network equipment
Network equipment is broadly divided into active and passive categories. Active devices have power and can manage traffic, while passive devices do not require electrical power and are used to connect and organize cables.
Introducing some network devices
- Network switch - serves as a link between devices, forwarding data packets and enabling interconnection among computers, servers, printers, and other devices.
- Router - handles routing of traffic between networks and connects different networks; its operation is more specialized than a switch.
- Network interface card - provides network connectivity for each device, wired or wireless.
